ABIDE - Women's Bible Study

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5)

Our Vision

In John 15, Christ repeatedly makes references to bearing fruit. This indicates that it is His will that He be gloried, not by praise alone, but also by his disciples bearing fruit by walking in joyful obedience and holiness. This fruit comes to expression through personal transformation, love and service to others, and participation in the work of Christ’s church.

The goal of our Bible study is to encourage women of all ages to know and love God more fully by becoming betters readers of the Bible. God’s inspired Word is meant to continually inform and transform us. We must recognize that what we understand the Bible’s primary purpose to be will inevitably shape the way in which we interpret it. If we view the bible primarily as a book of timeless principles for living, then the focus will be on what the Bible says about us. If this is the extent of our view of the Bible, we would miss the fullness and richness of the Bible as being primarily being about God – the revelation of His character and purposes.

In our Bible study groups, we seek to help one another engage with Scripture from God’s perspective, understanding that is a unified story of God’s redemptive plan in history culminating in and centered on the saving reign and rule of Jesus Christ. It is as we prayerfully look into the pages of Scripture and there find Christ – that we truly have Christ’s Word abiding in us. The Bible comes alive with rich application as we see that all its various strands and literary parts are connected to form a cohesive whole. We also find that as those united by faith to our crucified and risen Savior, we can find our place in redemptive history. It is our hope and prayer that God would use these groups to cause each of us to continually overflow with praise, worship, and much fruit as we love, serve, and counsel others in every sphere of influence and in every season of our lives.

“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11)
